Smith for Board of Education
Mike Smith is a Maryland attorney who emerged as a new candidate for the Howard County Board of Education in 2014. He hired me to design campaign materials in order to draw attention to himself and stand out among more established candidates. I delivered a bold set of visuals that utilized Smith’s signature Maryland bowtie as the focal point.
“I worked with Jeff to prepare a wide variety of designs for my political campaign. His designs were memorable, distinct, and drew in rave reviews from countless people. He was prompt, reliable, cooperative, and worked creatively in the face of some challenging requirements. I highly recommend Jeff without any reservations.”Mike Smith
After several initial meetings with Mike, it became clear that unique designs were a must for this campaign. He was running for the first time, and was the only candidate with no existing name recognition. I created a bowtie logo to mimic his signature Maryland bowtie (worn to all his events) and used it as the center-piece for all of the designs. This bowtie, paired with bold colors and eye-catching patterns, led to a very distinct set of visuals.
The campaign generated a lot of buzz in the local community and helped Smith make it to the final round of the election.
The Whole Spectrum
The campaign kept a consistent image throughout a variety of designs — including business cards, palm cards, road signs, t-shirts and buttons.
