For the final project in my Audio Post Production class, I was tasked with redoing all the audio elements from a movie trailer. I chose to do Guardians of the Galaxy simply because it was the last movie I saw. This turned out to be a great choice because the trailer has a nice balance between music, sound effects, and dialogue. I don’t have a whole lot to say about the actual process– it was just a matter of putting in a lot of hours, and getting things done one sound at a time.
The main lesson I learned from this class is the importance of keeping effects subtle. I saw a lot of other student work where things like pitch shift and reverb were taken too far, and ruined the experience. I was very careful to minimize the use of these effects in my final, and I think it was successful. The best effects are often ones that the viewer doesn’t even consciously recognize.
