I’ve been experimenting a lot with watercolors over the past few weeks. My first few attempts tried a bit too hard at realism because it’s hard for me to shake my background with oil painting. I’m coming to terms with the fact that I need to embrace the loose and light nature of this medium. Since adopting this mindset I’m finally starting to find my groove and see big improvements.
(My first piece. I focused on detail in the faces and clothing which resulted in a creepy look)
(A few weeks in, I felt more comfortable experimenting with colors)
(I started to rely more on ink for shading, and left the colors as one solid mass)
(My most recent piece embodies this new, simple style)
